Radar Development Kit
The P452 Radar Development Kit is ideal for developers seeking to implement UWB radar in their products and applications. Many users configure the P452 radio to operate as a standalone monostatic radar, issuing raw and filtered waveform scans as well as detection lists consisting of the distance and reflection amplitude of targets within its scan range. The Kit also supports RF channel modeling and supports operation of bistatic or multistatic radar systems.
Kit Hardware & Accessories
The P452 Radar Development Kit is built around the P452 module, a fully coherent short-range radar offering excellent clutter rejection and 600 MHz instantaneous bandwidth and suitable for monostatic/bistatic/multistatic radar applications. It can also be used as a tool for radio propagation study and the creation of communications channel models. The P452 is a fully coherent UWB transceiver and is driven by FIFE, the company’s 6th generation custom UWB silicon chip.
Built for industrial applications, the P452 is designed to function in extreme environments, from -40°C to +85°C, and withstands high shock and vibration. It operates across the 4.0 to 4.6 GHz band, is fully 5G-compatible, and complies with both FCC and EU regulations for UWB RF emissions. This kit is an ideal solution for collision avoidance, autonomous navigation, and industrial machine positioning, making it an easy choice for developers looking to integrate cutting-edge ranging technology into their projects.
The Kit is available in both standard power (US FCC Part 15 and EU ETSI EN compliant) and high power (experimental operation only) versions.
The Monostatic Radar Module (MRM) software included with the Kit helps users quickly get a feel for how radar works. In monostatic mode, a P452 functions as both transmitter and receiver to issue raw and filtered waveform scans, as well as detection lists consisting of the distance and reflection amplitude of targets within its scan range. Built-in features allow for the viewing of raw scan data, bandpass filtered data, and motion filtered data separately or together. Potential detections based on background subtracted waveforms are also shown along with the distance to target. The MRM GUI allows for an easy transition to directly talking to the radio with the included MRM API for creating your own simple or extremely advanced radar applications.
The Channel Analysis Tool (CAT) software allows P452 users to view and log UWB RF waveforms as they propagate through an RF channel. These captured waveforms represent the impulse response of the environment. They can be used as a propagation tool to develop a communications channel model. CAT provides communications statistics for all received data including: Eb/No, Bit Error Rate and Packet Error Rate.
CAT also can be used in support of bistatic or multistatic radar.
In bistatic or multistatic mode, a UWB module broadcasts to one or more other UWB modules to generate a sequence of waveform scans that can be compared over time to discern targets of interest. Best of all, for multistatic operation the units wirelessly transmit a sync signal so there is no need for a hardware connection between the two units.
